Easy SkyMesh uses LoRa as the long range (2–15 km) wireless technology and Meshtastic repeaters to further extend the wireless range for IoT devices.
To further expand the network coverage, we use Meshtastic repeaters:
- To extend communication range: If Node A is 12 km from Node B, and they can’t reach each other directly, a repeater placed in between can bridge that gap.
- To improve network reliability: If one path fails (e.g., a node goes offline), a repeater provides an alternate route.
- To support battery devices: Battery devices can go to deepsleep to save power. Repeaters do the heavy lifting — they are usually solar- or mains-powered and always on.
Usecases
It is recommended to use a repeater if:
- Devices are more than 3–5 km apart in complex terrain.
- You want to relay messages across hills, valleys, or buildings.
- You want to make a battery-powered sensor/handheld more efficient.
- You are building an emergency backup or off-grid system.
Recommended devices
It is recommended to use commercial repeaters for commercial projects for better reliability and support.
- Commercial repeaters: WisMesh Repeater and WisMesh Repeater Mini
- DIY repeaters: Yes, you can still set Repeater role for DIY nodes to act as Meshtastic repeaters.
